Sweet Sour and Bitter Memories of 2007

The last time I updated this page was somewhere in June 07. It has been six months from then and 2007 is sailing past us. It seems time flies when we are on something or nothing at all. No difference there. I know in my last post I was committed to continue with this blog of mine however work has put me away from putting my thoughts here.

My journey in 2007 has not been the best but I survived somehow. I got another daughter (well she was born on September 11, 2006) but watching her grow was really something. Somehow kids grow really fast and I can’t help to wonder whether I am a good father or not or whether I am doing the right thing or not. Raising a child in these years is really hard and whatever you do, there is always a thin red line separating what’s right and wrong.

We also see the increase of some of the prices including food and some other items. I remember buying formula for my daughter was cheaper last year (2006). It used to be RM20.00 for 1.2kg but now the price is RM23.00 for 1kg only. That was something huh? Anymore increase before year’s end? I also realised that things are more expensive at the market. Last time, I used to spend about RM30 for vegetables a week but throughout 2007 I noticed that it has gone up bit by bit. Now I think I am paying nearly RM40 for a week of vegetables supply.

I also left the firm I was working with since April 2004. Now I’m in a new firm (literally new as we only started in July 2007). Work is okay I supposed and business is coming in. the best is to work for a London Stock Exchange deal. It is still going on now and hopefully we are able to collect our fees before the end of first quarter of 2008. I have to admit that the figure for this London Stock Exchange listing is quite good. Others are the normal commercial and corporate deal. No surprise.

Locally we see some twist in the local political arena. As the opposition trying to wrest the seats from the governing party we see street walk organised by Bersih. These people demanded a transparent election in the forthcoming general election. In the past, it was alleged that there were vote rigging etc. The de facto leader of Parti Keadilan Rakyat Malaysia has said so. I wonder how he got all these information from. Oh I forgot he was from the governing party before he was fired in 1998 for alleged misconduct. Can we get a fair and clean election? We have to wait for the answer in the next general election. Can we see changes made? Again we have to wait for the answer. But from my experience, I can say that the governing party has not been fair all these while. How do you stand for election with you hands and legs tied up against a person who uses live ammunition to shoot you. The use of government bodies like KEMAS, the police department and also the Election Commission to name a few are totally unacceptable.

Other than the call for clean and fair trial, we can’t just put the Lingam Gate aside. That was interesting. As we all know, the image of the judiciary has been tarnished from the day Tun Salleh Abas was fired from his Lord President’s post. His successors have failed to maintain the independence of the judiciary. With this Lingam Gate issue on the table, we are convinced that the head of the judiciary are just mere puppets and the puppeteers are very good in playing their role of pulling the strings. And what does a puppet do? Dance if they are asked to. Cry if they have to and most of all they have to act the way the strings are pulled. Let’s see what the outcome of this issue is. Personally, I don’t think any actions will be taken against the people involved. The worse that can happen, some people will be given a slap on their hand and it ends there.

Finally, 2007 is remembered as the year my father passed. He passed away recently on 14 December 2007 (recently only la) (coincidently my daughter's 4th birthday). As I told my eldest daughter (as she’s very close to the grandfather), he will always be with me and her in our memory and in our heart and we will cherish all the memories we have with him. He is the greatest man I have ever known and he was a great father to me and a great grandfather to my daughters. But it was his time to go and those who survived him have to carry on living. I know he is in the best place waiting for all of us. As for now, have to continue to carry the burning torch.
